Applying for a USA Visa

  • For registered attendees and speakers traveling from outside the USA, you likely need to obtain a visa from the USA consulate or embassy in your own country.
  • To assist you, we can provide a Letter of Invitation. Please request this early, since it can take 2 or 3 months for your embassy to review your application and grant an approval.
  • First, please register for ITherm, so that we can confirm your payment on our server.
  • Please send an email to the ITherm General Chair Madhu Iyengar ([email protected]), with the following information:
    • Your full name
    • Your IEEE confirmation of payment (the one emailed to you)
    • Your paper number (if you are an ITherm author)
    • Your Session (if you are an ITherm session chair)
    • Your organization (company, university)
    • Your business mailing address and city
    • Your date of birth and country (if you are a student)
    • Your nearest USA Embassy, if you know it
    • Your passport number (and country of issue), if you want it referenced
  • We will address the letter to “To Whom It May Concern” unless you give us the name of an organization or person.
  • You will receive a PDF of a formal Letter of Invitation, suitable to submit to the embassy.

Those traveling from outside the USA and belonging to a visa waiver program (VWP) participating country may not need to apply for a visa. Instead, please complete the ESTA online application and receive authorization for travel to the USA. Website: esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta
